Vintage Recipe: Chocolate Peanut Clusters

I'm digging into old recipe boxes and rediscovering the family favorites hidden inside! You'll find carefully handwritten recipe cards, newspapers and magazines clippings and even some hastily scrawled directions on scraps of paper, all from years (and years) ago! They're all getting scanned and transcribed so you can enjoy them in your own home kitchen.

This recipe for Chocolate Peanut Clusters sounds like a great last-minute treat to make for Christmas gift-giving or for your sweetheart on Valentine's Day and anniversaries! It's also easy enough to involve the kids when making goodies for teachers, caretakers or family and friends.

It isn’t limited to just peanuts, either. It can be made with all sorts of nuts, seeds or dried fruit! The recipe suggests substituting the following for the peanuts:
  • Walnuts
  • Pecans
  • Cashews
  • Blanched Almonds
  • Raisins

We suggest trying these, too:
  • Dried Cranberries, Blueberries or Apricot
  • Pumpkin or Sunflower Seeds
  • Pretzel Bits and more…
Use any one or a combination. Just keep the chocolate to additive ratio the same - 8 squares of Baker's Chocolate for every 1½ cups of other ingredients.

This recipe was handwritten in beautiful blue script on both sides of an index card. The recipe card is dated Aug. 29/41. It was found in a modest collection of recipes all from around the same time period.

See more recipes from this collection!

The original recipe has been scanned and is transcribed below. It can be printed for use in your own home kitchen. Enjoy!

Please Note: Every effort has been made to transcribe these old recipe cards completely and accurately. Many have faded, are stained, or simply do not include every step or tool used in the process. We have changed the wording in some places and added instruction in others to make the text a bit clearer. We do not test or verify all the information found on these old cards. If you choose use the information found here, please know that you do so at your own risk.
