I thought nothing of it when I signed up to bring cookies to The Girl's school Valentine's Party. After all, they're just cookies. But if Mr. LH had known ahead of time what I was doing, he would have requested I sign up for something like napkins.
I couldn't settle for buying cookies and taking them in. I had to make them. Then I couldn't just use a tried and true recipe for cookies. I had to make decorated sugar cookies...with royal icing. Royal icing is something I have tried to avoid for years and years and years and years...
You can learn just about anything on the internet so I set out to find a quick tutorial on royal icing. I was rewarded with The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle and her royal icing recipe.
Though even the small icing batch was much more than I needed (and I was making about 3 dozen cookies), the instructions led me through to a pretty batch of presentable Valentine's Cookies. There are some things I'd do differently next time, but I was very happy with the results.
We wound up with plenty of cookies for the class party and even had some cookies left for Tia's neighborhood friends.
