Time To Make The (Homemade) Doughnuts!

Thank goodness there is a Krispy Kreme in the state, but I have to be reasonably near it to buy my favorite melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts. As a result, it's been several months since we've been west of the city where I can get my Krispy Kremes.

So, having never attempted doughnuts making before, I decided it was about time to try....especially when this recipe for "Mom's Raised Doughnuts" hit my inbox on Saturday.

I made regular doughnuts with holes and then deep fried the holes, too. The doughnut holes actually turned out better and rose nicely during the 2nd rising. The others, well, they tasted good but they looked...um...different. The Girl called out to he brother and asked if he wanted to try an onion ring doughnut. Perhaps they will do better in warmer weather...

I much preferred the doughnut holes (The Girl said they were heaven) but some of them just refused to flip over in the oil. I had to hold them in place so they would cook properly. I did wind up tripling the glaze recipe since the batch made 20 regular doughnuts as well as about 30 doughnut holes (the original recipe said it would make about 2 dozen regular doughnuts) and I double glazed many of the doughnuts.

This was a very tasty treat that took care of my Krispy Kreme craving for now...I might have to try filling some of the doughnut holes with raspberry or lemon...

those look so tasty! We'll have to try that recipe. We've made these in the past, and they're pretty good too. :)

I've got that BHG issue! I'll have to try those. I'm more of a yeast doughnut person but I do enjoy those powdered sugar minis you can buy. I'd rather make my own...in large batches :)
